The REWRITE project marked a significant milestone with the successful organization of its first annual meeting, which took place in Ghent from October 8-11, 2024. REWRITE Holds Successful First Annual Meeting in Ghent

REWRITE aims to protect coastal communities by restoring degraded ecosystems, fostering innovation in coastal protection, and enhancing the sustainability of coastal management. By focusing on ecosystem services and nature-based solutions, REWRITE is developing new methods to safeguard coastlines from the impacts of climate change, while ensuring social and economic benefits for coastal regions.

During the first day of the meeting, partners reviewed the project’s achievements so far, with each work package (WP) sharing progress updates. On the second and third days, a series of in-depth workshops allowed participants to explore key topics in greater detail, enhancing collaboration across the project’s diverse areas of focus.

In addition to the formal sessions, the meeting featured a lively networking mixer, providing partners with the opportunity to connect informally. This event was particularly valuable for PhD students and post-docs involved in REWRITE, who had the chance to present their research to the wider group, fostering dialogue and knowledge-sharing within the project community.

The meeting was further enriched by the participation of the steering committee, who provided valuable feedback on the project's progress to date. Their guidance and recommendations will play an essential role in ensuring the project’s continued success.

The REWRITE team is energized and looking forward to implementing the ideas and strategies that emerged from this productive annual meeting, as they continue working towards the project’s goals of restoring ecosystems, innovating coastal protection, and building sustainable, resilient coastal communities.
