Exciting PhD Opportunity on Marine Biogeochemistry with MICRO BENTOSExciting PhD Opportunity on Marine Biogeochemistry with MICRO BENTOS
The MICRO BENTOS research group at the University of Cádiz is currently offering a PhD position as part of the MULTI-FLUX project. This funded position focuses on quantifying greenhouse gas emissions in coastal ecosystems, an area vital for understanding and mitigating climate change impacts.
The PhD candidate will conduct fieldwork in diverse intertidal ecosystems across Europe, using advanced methodologies like benthic chamber incubations, sediment core extractions, and gas exchange modeling. This research is supported by a dynamic team of experts, including Dr. Ruth M. García and Dr. Vincent Brüchert, who bring extensive expertise in marine sediment and greenhouse gas dynamics.
The PhD will be developed in the Microbial Ecology and Biogeochemistry Group of the Department of Biology of the University of Cadiz, under the supervision of Sokratis Papaspyrou and Irene Laiz. This is a fully funded position for 4 years, with an opportunity to be part of pioneering environmental research.
Requirements
- The candidate must have obtained a bachelor’s degree on Marine or Environmental Sciences, Biology or similar and a Master’s degree preferably also in the same topics.
- The candidates must request to be pre-registered in a Doctoral Program in Marine Science and Technology at the University of Cadiz (https://posgrado.uca.es/doctor/)
- Be highly motivated and committed to develop a scientific career.
- Have some experience on biogeochemistry, aquatic ecology, microbiology, remote sensing, environmental chemistry or similar.
- Have experience on scientific reading and writing.
