Postdoctoral Position on Tidal Wetland Carbon Dynamics now open

We’re excited to share that a new postdoctoral research opportunity is now open at Nantes Université, in collaboration with University of Aveiro (Portugal) and ICMAN-CSIC (Spain).

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, international research team working at the intersection of carbon cycle science, coastal wetland restoration, and ecosystem service modelling. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge interdisciplinary research focused on understanding and enhancing the role of tidal wetlands in carbon sequestration and climate adaptation.

About the Position

The candidate will sample marine angiosperm meadows for carbon measurements in the Bay of Cádiz, the Aveiro Lagoon, and the Bay of Bourgneuf.

Measuring carbon using two different methods

  • Proficiency in Python and R programming languages to master the ICE-CREAMS machine-learning algorithm for identifying marine angiosperms, utilising field spectroradiometry data
  • Mapping the spatial distribution of Blue Carbon in 3 to 4 intertidal ecosystems across Europe using Sentinel-2 satellite data in two seasons and in sites undergoing restoration, comparing results with other vegetated ecosystems (salt marsh plants and microphytobenthos of intertidal mudflats)

Application Details

  • Start Date: 1 June 2025

  • Type of Contract: Temporary, full-time

  • Application Deadline: 25 Apr 2025 - 18:00 CET
