Postdoctoral Opportunity at Ghent University

​Ghent University's Department of Biology is seeking a Post-Doctoral Assistant to join the REWRITE project, focusing on the biodiversity and ecology of microorganisms and microbiomes. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in microbial ecology within intertidal sediment ecosystems.​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct academic research on microbial biodiversity and ecology.​

  • Assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor's or Master's level, particularly in courses on (microbial) biodiversity, biogeography, and ecology.​

  • Supervise Bachelor's and Master's students during exercises, work placements, and dissertations.​

  • Mentor doctoral students in related research fields.​

Candidate Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Biology, Marine Sciences, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Bioscience Engineering, or a related field.​

  • Proven research experience in microbial ecology.​

  • Expertise in analyzing -omics datasets, statistical analysis of ecological data in R, and conducting laboratory or field experiments.​

  • A strong record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.​

This role is integral to the REWRITE project's mission to restore and rewild intertidal sediment ecosystems for climate adaptation, carbon storage, and biodiversity support.
