Angers Autumn School 2025

BIOGEO-2D, November 17-21

When sediment chemistry becomes visible.

Discover 2D biogeochemical gels

Angers Autumn School 2025

From 17 to 21 November 2025, the University of Angers will host the Angers Autumn School BIOGEO2D under the theme “When sediment chemistry becomes visible – Discover 2D biogeochemical gels.”

Organised by Master’s students of the Biology, Ecology, and Evolution (BEE) programme, together with researchers from the Laboratory of Planetology and Geosciences (LPG), the school will focus on exploring biogeochemical processes in sediments at the sub-millimetre scale. Participants will discover how 2D DET (Diffusive Equilibrium in Thin film) gels, combined with colorimetric methods and hyperspectral imaging, can provide unique insights into sediment dynamics.

Over five days, the programme will combine fieldwork, scientific presentations, and hands-on workshops, offering participants a chance to learn from internationally recognised specialists and directly experiment with innovative techniques.

The REWRITE project will also be represented, with Project Coordinator Vona Méléder joining as a speaker, linking the school’s focus on cutting-edge biogeochemistry to the broader goals of coastal rewilding and ecosystem restoration.
