Meet Silvia Rayo Mato from University of Cádiz

We are pleased to introduce a new member of our REWRITE team, Silvia Rayo Mato!

Silvia is an oceanographer specialising in marine biogeochemistry, with additional expertise in meteorology. She is part of the REWRITE team at the University of Cádiz, where she works at the local Demonstrator Site supporting field-based research and ecosystem monitoring.

Within REWRITE, Silvia coordinates the logistics and preparation of sampling campaigns. Her work integrates CO₂ measurements using benthic chambers with sediment and biomass sampling, while also contributing to the setup and maintenance of an atmospheric Eddy Covariance tower. Through this combined approach, she helps generate high-quality data on carbon fluxes and ecosystem metabolism in coastal environments.

Once field data and samples are collected, Silvia focuses on biogeochemical analyses and the development of structured data workflows to quantify gas fluxes and characterise ecosystem functioning. Her work bridges hands-on field measurements with rigorous data processing, ensuring that observations are transformed into reliable and well-organised datasets that support the project’s scientific objectives.

Silvia brings to REWRITE a strong combination of technical precision, field experience, and analytical expertise. We are delighted to have her on board and look forward to the valuable contributions she will make to advancing our understanding of coastal carbon dynamics and ecosystem processes.
